{"id":1020,"date":"2009-11-09T09:24:46","date_gmt":"2009-11-09T15:24:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hunch.net\/?p=1020"},"modified":"2009-11-09T09:24:46","modified_gmt":"2009-11-09T15:24:46","slug":"nyas-ml-symposium-this-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hunch.net\/?p=1020","title":{"rendered":"NYAS ML Symposium this year."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyas.org\/Events\/Detail.aspx?cid=533f8dfe-d778-4c52-ba1b-3241bc9c8ca2\">NYAS ML symposium<\/a> grew again this year to 170 participants, despite the need to outsmart or otherwise tunnel through <a href=\"http:\/\/sportsillustrated.cnn.com\/2009\/baseball\/mlb\/11\/06\/yankees.parade.ap\/index.html?section=si_latest\">a crowd<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p>Perhaps the most distinct talk was by Bob Bell on various aspects of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.netflixprize.com\/\">Netflix prize<\/a> competition.  I also enjoyed several student posters including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cs.princeton.edu\/~mdhoffma\/\">Matt Hoffman<\/a>&#8216;s cool examples of blind source separation for music.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m somewhat surprised how much the workshop has grown, as it is now comparable in size to a small conference, although in style more similar to a workshop.
